在留期間について
：Period of stay

在留期間は、一定期間ごとに、日本に住む外国人の在留活動や在留状況を出入国在留管理局（いわゆる入管）が確認するために設けられています。
The period of stay is established for the Immigration Bureau to confirm the residence activities and residence status of foreigners living in Japan at regular intervals.

在留活動等の安定性や継続性があり、入管が確認する機会が少なくてもよいと判断される場合、長い在留期間が決定されます。
A long period of stay will be decided if it is judged that there is stability and continuity in the activities of residence, and if it is judged that fewer opportunities for immigration confirmation are acceptable.

対して、在留活動の状況等から近い時期に在留状況を確認する必要があると判断される場合、短い在留期間が決定されます。
On the other hand, if it is determined that it is necessary to confirm the status of residence in the near future due to the status of residence activities, etc., a shorter period of stay will be decided.

そのため、日本に住んでいる期間が長くても、在留活動や生活状況等の安定性や継続性があると入管に判断されていない場合、長い在留期間は決定されません。
Therefore, even if you have lived in Japan for a long time, if the Immigration Bureau does not judge that you have stability and continuity in your activities and living conditions, your period of stay will not be determined.

また、ビザの変更や生活状況に変化がある期間更新（転職や離婚・再婚・死別等）をすると、長い在留期間が付与されていた人でも、短い在留期間となることが多いです。
Also, if you change your visa or change your living situation (change jobs, divorce, remarriage, bereavement, etc.), even those who were granted a long period of stay will often have a short period of stay.

長く日本に住んでいるのに在留期間「１年」を入管に連続して決定されている場合、在留活動や生活状況が安定していない、公共の負担になっている（生活保護を受けている）、健康保険や年金等の社会保険料の納付をしていない、入管法に定める届出義務をしていない、等の在留状況に何らかの問題がある可能性があります。
If you have lived in Japan for a long time, but the immigration bureau has determined that your period of stay is "1 year", your activities and living conditions will not be stable, and it will be a burden to the public. ), have not paid social insurance premiums such as health insurance or pension, or have not fulfilled the reporting obligations stipulated by the Immigration Control Act.

長い在留期間を得たい場合はこれらの問題を解消する必要があります。

最長の「５年」の在留期間の許可を取るためには

上記ガイドラインの要素を全て満たすことと、さらに以下の要素も満たす必要があります。

①　在留資格の定める活動の予定期間が３年以上であること（配偶者等の居住資格の配偶者は、婚姻後の同居期間が３年を超えること。）。
The planned period of activity specified by the status of residence is 3 years or more（Spouse with residency status of spouse, etc. must live together for more than 3 years after marriage.）.

②　義務教育期間の子供がいる場合、その子が小学校・中学校や義務教育学校（インターナショナルスクール含む）に通学していること。
If you have a child who is under compulsory education, the child must attend elementary school, junior high school, or compulsory education school (including international school).

③　保有しているビザが就労ビザの場合、勤務先がカテゴリー１または２であること。
If your visa is a work visa, your employer must be Category 1 or 2.

④　③に当たらない場合、在留期間「３年」を保有していて、５年以上現在のビザで定められた活動をしていること。
If you do not meet ③, you must have a period of stay of "3 years" and have been engaged in the activities specified by your current visa for more than 5 years.

⑤　配偶者ビザや定住者ビザの人は、納税、健康保険、年金の納付等の公的義務を履行していること。
Those with a spouse visa or long-term resident visa must fulfill public obligations such as tax payment, health insurance, and pension payment.

⑥　定住者ビザの人は日本語能力試験Ｎ２以上の日本語能力を有していること（未成年者は除く）。
Long-term resident visa holders must have Japanese language proficiency of N2 or higher on the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (excluding minors).

⑦　就労ビザの人は、分類されている会社のカテゴリーが上位カテゴリーであるほど、長期間となるため、会社の規模で左右されてしまいます。
そのため、大企業に勤務していると簡単に「５年」の許可が出たりしますが、中小企業だと「３年」のままのことが多いです。
For people on work visas, the higher the category of the company they are classified in, the more likely they are to work, so it is appropriate for the size of the company.
Therefore, if you work for a large company, you may easily get a 5-year permit, but for small and medium-sized companies, you often get a 3-year permit.
